I recently saw on the front page of”The Australian” newspaper that there was a heading questioning about the validity of Orders made in the Family Court for de facto couples.

When I was in Sydney at the Conference this issue was raised by one of the Family Court Judges who confirmed that the government would pass retrospective legislation to correct the administrative oversight.

No one at the conference was at all concerned about the issue as it is obvious what needs to happen.

De facto couples who have gone through the process of obtaining Court Orders either by consent or by Order of the Court will have the full protection of the legislation.

People do not need to be concerned about the report in the paper.

    Have a nice weekend
