Family Law Checklist
When people initially separate, there are few things which should be done as soon as possible
Collate the personal records of each of the parties
- Bank accounts
- Tax returns
- Credit card statements
- Superannuation statements
- Payslips
These documents do not have to be up to date but are a useful source of information to assist later on.
If there is a mortgage or personal loan, contact the bank to reduce the payments to the minimum amount payable.
Contact Centrelink if necessary to arrange an appointment should any social security benefits be required
Go to the Child Support Agency webpage www.csa.gov.au to go to the calculator for child support
This should be done by both parties to establish what child support is either to be received or paid
Child support is payable either
- From the date of separation or
- 28 days prior to the lodgment of the form
Whichever is the later
If Centrelink is required by either party then an Application to Child Support is compulsory
